Chairman's Lockdown Report
Well 2020 is certainly turning out to be a year to remember!! For some of you, this will have been the longest you have gone without training and playing competitively for a long period of time. For me, this is the longest I have gone without playing basketball in 40 years!!
Since the gym closed and all live game coverage was stopped, the only thing we have had to look forward too was the eagerly awaited release of the ‘The Last Dance’, which has turned out to be an incredible series! I hope you are all enjoying it as much as i am!
Nevertheless despite the challenging circumstances we all find ourselves in, i would like to say a huge WELL DONE to everyone that has continued to practice at home. It is great to see so many of you improving your current skills and learning new ones! We have thoroughly enjoyed watching all of your videos and reading your messages, so thank you to all those that took the time to send these in.
We are keen to get things moving as soon as we can for next season. I’m aware that sessions were missed at the end of the spring term and we will ensure sessions are put into place to cover these as soon as we are able to return to the gym. It has not yet been made clear to us when we will be able to continue to train as a team but Basketball England have released its ‘Return to Play Roadmap’ which is definitely a positive step in the right direction and sets out new guidelines for practicing on outdoor courts. Recent communication with Basketball England and YBL has suggested that leagues will start later for the 2020/21 season. We have been given November as a provisional start date to resume games with the assumption that we begin training in September. Unfortunately if this date is pushed back then the season start date will follow suit.
The teams we have decided to enter into the league this season will be: U9, U11, U13, U15 (x2), U17, Ladies & Mens.
With regards to our end of season presentation, the committee have decided that we will host this event during the summer. Once the new lockdown guidelines have been announced we will have a clearer picture of where we stand. This will still be going ahead whether it be in person or virtually and we will update you all as soon as we know anything else. Obviously the health and safety of our athletes, parents and coaches is paramount and we will be taking this into careful consideration along with the new government guidelines when making our final decision.
Once again thank you to everyone for your continued support. Take care and i hope to see you all very soon.
