The Storm were on the road again this week and travelled to Spartans ready to get back to winning ways. Cole started hot with 3 quick baskets off steals before Alex added another one to make it 8-0. The Storm fast break was also working well and Cole scored another basket as well as Ben and Joe adding one basket each. Storm were leading 14-8 and Coach Wilson warned the Storm to make sure they had a good second quarter, with a few defensive changes Storm managed to hold the Spartans to just 2 points whilst adding 13 points to our own score. Alex and Joe hit the first two baskets, then Ben came alive for 9 points in a row. After the half Spartans came out firing and traded basket for basket with the Storm actually winning the quarter 11-9. Oli and George played well winning rebounds and running the floor. George was growing in confidence running the break and nearly finished 3 or 4 times. Cole scored the first four points of the quarter, followed by Ben scoring one from the line. Will Milne drove in for a great lay-up which he was fouled on but unfortunately couldn’t convert the extra point. The clock was ticking down and Storm had one more attack, Joe gambled on a long 3 and Rhys stopped in to gather the rebound and hit a great mid range buzzer beater. For the final quarter the Storm again focused back on defence again holding the Spartans to only 2 points. As the Storm grew in confidence they played some lovely team basketball sharing the ball around and looking very comfortable. Alex and Cole started the scoring with a basket each, followed by Rhys and Joe who brought the Storm home with another 4 points from Rhys and 6 from Joe. Another stellar performance by Storm which showed a number of improvements, especially on defence with excellent help defence and improving denial defence. On offence the fast break continued to work well, but we looked much better sharing the ball around if the fast break wasn’t on. We need a great training session Monday, to prepare for Worcester next weekend a team who have already had some big results.
