The U13 team travelled to Birmingham today for their first ever match in the YBL league. Both teams looked good in the warm up, but despite this both teams started the match rather tentatively. Jo Ritson scored an early lay up which helped to settle the teams nerves and then Storm went to on to create a 14-2 lead by the end of the first quarter. Cole and Ben both adding 4 points each.

Frankley Falcons came out scoring in the second quarter showing what a dangerous team they are, Cole and Alex managed to combine for 9 important points. At the half Storm were leading 23-19.

Fortunately the Storm showed their true colours in the third quarter, playing fantastic free flowing team basketball. The Storm out scored the Falcons 25-7 showing great fast break basketball. Ben had a big quarter scoring 13 points, but Alex, Cole and Jo were also on the scoresheet and the game was looking over for the Falcons.

Storm eased off a little in the last quarter with Rhys Williams scoring a great fast break lay up, along with points from Jo, Alex and Ben.

The final score was 61-36 which is a fair reflection of how well the Storm played. A very positive start to the season, especially knowing that the team will keep improving each week.

Everybody on the team today made a positive contribution and a big thanks must go to Jack and Sam who played today against much older players and held their own. Oli played well and was often the first player down the court on Offense and George made a bright start to the game, before an injured ankle greatly reduced his playing time. Great TEAM performance and I can’t wait till next week’s match.
